Creating the opportunity to give back to the Palm Beach County community in which the annual collegiate bowl game is played, the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl drafted more than 40 Bowl Partner executives and employees to help build a safe, decent and affordable home for a local, hard-working, low-income Habitat Partner Family.
Collectively working to transform their community with an inspiring “hand up, not a hand out”, the Bowl Partner Builders hailed from Tire Kingdom, Crocker Partners and GL Homes. They, along with 2017 Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl Champion FAU Running Back Gerald Hearns raised hammers and wielded power tools in carpentry-related work. Together they installed window boxes and windows and completed a range of interior finishing work on the future home for Ilomane, a housekeeper at Abbey Delray South senior living community, and her daughter Jessie, an oncology nurse at Delray Medical Center.

For 27 young adults who barely knew each other, many of whom were facing a dark future, a fledgling program came along just at the right time to light the way.
Chosen for the first Student ACES Solar Boot Camp, these young adults were empowered to change course toward a promising career — and maybe even transform their lives.
The intense four-week boot camp, which concluded July 16, emphasized not only solar-energy construction, but also leadership and essential life skills to help them rise out of poverty and break a generational cycle.

Scott Arnold, CEO of Team Sports Ministries and lead pastor at Journey Church in Jupiter, FL. says of Hearns, “Gerald Hearns is a young man I have known since his 9th grade year at Dwyer. Gerald is definitely the hardest working (young man) with great integrity who honors God and lifts people up around him to do better. Whatever Gerald puts his mind to he gives 100% of his time and talents. I have been blessed to know him for the past nine years and can only imagine what great things are in store for him moving forward.”
